Focus on Exams or Deadlines – Eliminate Distractions

Do you have a looming deadline or exam? Are you reading this post, instead of preparing yourself?

Here’s the solution: Close your web browser. Do your work.

Well, it might not be that easy. Fortunately, I’ve written before on this subject. Here are a few articles you might find useful:

Since I’m procrastinating myself, here are some other ideas to consider:

  • Close your email. Seriously, you don’t need to check it every 5 minutes.
  • Ignore your RSS feeds. I don’t think the answer to an exam question will pop up in there.
  • Take a blogging break. Your blog won’t disappear if you don’t post for a couple days.
  • Close other programs. Does IM really help you study?

Now, I really must study for finals. Graduation is near, but I still have to pass. ;)

Andrew, leave it to you to get right to the point…! You are so on target…I find the computer can eat up huge amounts of time without you even realizing it.Thanks!

    Alberta,

You’re absolutely right that computers eat up time. I think they’re time vortexes. They just sit there and suck up all 1/2 our time. And the TV sucks up the other half. :)

Good luck mate. Hope you do well. In the meantime, I’d better start studying. Have an exam on Strategic Planning first week of June

    Owen,

Thanks for the good wishes. I wish you luck on your exam as well. You must not procrastinate like me – June’s a long time away. :)

I have lots of assignment and exams coming up and I’m still procrastinating. While your tips are more than great, I still find them easier said than done. We need a blogging rehab of some sort lol

    Hey Dee,

You’re absolutely right that these tips are hard to actually implement. One thing I’ve been doing today is to “reward” myself by having designated blog time every so often. If I really focus and study, I get to have guilt-free blogging time periodically.

    Good luck with your exams!
    Andrew

    Amore,

I am going to be the lawyer for a nonprofit organization: American Life League. I’ll be doing research, lobbying, and some litigation. It will be fun!
