Simplicity – Why I Deleted My Plaxo Account

How many social networks are you a member of? Personally, I’m on way too many to count.

Do we really need them all? Probably not.

Here’s a quick simplicity challenge for you: pick one social networking site and delete your account.

I just deleted my Plaxo account (here’s how to delete yours). I chose to delete Plaxo because:

1. I rarely logged in. In fact, I only logged in to accept someone’s connection request.

2. I got fed up with all the connection request emails and emails telling me that the requests were …

What is Solo Practice University?

In a nutshell, it’s an online university where law students and lawyers can learn a wide variety of topics related to running a successful solo law practice. There are courses, faculty, discussion groups, blogs, videos, comments, and lots more!

Referral Marketing Books Reviewed and Rated

As a business owner, I’ve been trying to build my base of incoming referrals. I get very few clients from referrals, and I want to change that!

Referral marketing is a basic way of building business that’s all about word of mouth. But true referral marketing uses a system to consistently obtain referrals. It’s not just a clumsily relying on people to occasionally drop your name.

To beef up my referral marketing, I checked out three books from the local library. I want to share my thoughts on …

Business Card Idea – Keep It Simple

Every so often I come across a business card idea that I love. The above card is one of those.

Sure, this playing card business card is tacky. But it’s memorable. And for some professions, it just might do the trick. With the right person behind the card, I think it would be fun to receive.

How could you make this neater? Print on the playing card with your inkjet printer. Or find a place where you could just buy a bunch of Aces, and …

Business Referral Network – Should I Join BNI?

Business networking is the key to a strong client base. But where do business networking groups fit into that picture? I’d love your thoughts.

Business referral networking

Business referral networking takes “meeting people” to a higher level. The goal is really to provide possible client referrals to your contacts. In return, your contacts will refer business to you.

From my perspective, networking in business needs at least some focus on providing referrals. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to invest time and money into meeting people …

New Business Card Ideas

A reader responded to my article about law student business cards, and she asked some very thoughtful questions. In fact, there are some good ideas here for everyone to consider.

Business card and address

First of all, should your business card contain your address?

Let me answer that question with a question: Does it need to?

When you’re designing a professional business card, you should always remember the purpose. You want people to be able to contact you. How are people most …

Business Card Display Holder Ideas

We talk a lot about business cards around here, from distinguishing them to students, finding unique cards, and legal card ideas. But what about business card display? What kind of cool business card holders do you use?

Business card display on your car

A neat idea that I recently saw is pictured here. A car had typical lettering on the back window (selling solar panels, I believe). But it also had a built-in business card holder: the wiper blade!

The wiper blade had simple “take one” labels …
