Legal Andrew Site News!

I’ve been pretty lax with my writing lately. Too few updates, and not much good content for you guys.

New theme

So now I’m proud to announce Legal Andrew’s new theme. If you’re reading this via RSS reader, be sure to click through and check it out!

The theme is based on Whitespace by Brian Gardner. I did some of my own tweaking and CSS work to make it fairly custom. I’m still putting the finishing touches on things, so please let me know if you encounter any problems.

Also, you’ll see the cool new custom logo! It was made by The Logo Company for only $149. Personally, I love it! The whole process went very well, and I’m pleased with the final result.

Overzealous spam filter

If you’ve commented in the past few days (possibly weeks), I might have missed it. Gmail’s spam filter seems to think everything that WordPress sends out is spam. I just retrieved a bunch of comment notifications, so I’ll do my best to catch up with things I missed.

Loss of PageRank

Just when I thought I understood SEO, Google slapped me silly. Apparently the public PageRank update came around, and Legal Andrew now comes in at 4, down from the previous 5.

I’m a bit bewildered by this development. The site hasn’t grown as much in the past few months, but I didn’t think the ranking could slide backward like that.

My main concern: sponsored posts and links. Google might be penalizing me for the paid links and posts that I have around the site. I’ll be investigating this very soon.

I love the new theme! Very professional and innovative too. Would you like to comment on why you changed your previous theme, which was fairly new?

I’ve wondered whether Google would catch on to text-link-ads and similar services. Keep us informed regarding your pagerank observations.

By the way, your image in this post and the Adsense ad don’t leave much room for the narrow column of text between them. Take a look at the post itself by clicking on it from the front page.

Thanks for your feedback. Another reader alerted me to the display issue with AdSense and the big image. I’ll try to iron that out soon.

As for changing the theme, I wanted to rebrand the site. I wanted to create a minimalist, professional theme that was still fun. I’ve got more work to do on that (like adding pictures of myself).

Thanks for the compliments. I am planning to get my face back up there ASAP. But I want to get a better picture taken, so it’s clean and crisp.

I’m glad you like the logo. It was absolutely worth the price they charged! Although it’s not as cool as your new logo.
