Hi Pro Se,

I definitely see your point about comments increasing page load times. The message board idea is one solution. Steve Pavlina has gone that route. Another method is to use paged comments. Then only the first 20-25 comments load with the original post, the rest are put onto page 2,3,etc.

I'm going to keep my eye on the poll and see what the overall vote is. We'll see if I end up making a change.

I prefer threaded comments but if you end up with a lot of comments on a page, the original post will take longer to load won't it? Some of us are in the sticks and still use *choke* dial-up, *blush* to access the Internet. I like reading comments, but WordPress seems to slow down with too many of them. Maybe it's just my dial up?

I use IntegraMod for dealing with lengthy comment discussions. My blog isn't well known right now, so I don't have to worry about a lot of comments, but if it takes off, I've set up a place where discussions can be managed better, and a certain blog consultant (I hope) will help me figure out how to link my blog posts to the related discussion site. *grin*

Andrew, if you can find a WordPress plugin that integrates with IntegraMod discussions, that would be very cool. Here's what my law discussion threaded messages look like, but I would love to tie this in with the blog some how: http://www.globalide.com/index.php

Whatever solution you find for your blog, you know I'm going to want it on my blog too! I use your blog features to keep up to date for my own. I also like whatever you're using to send blog posts through our email, and I like the survey poll you just embedded. I'll add them to the blog to do list.

Brett,

Trippy! That's a great assessment. The purple shades on my example site do trip me out a bit. I tried to find a better example, but I had no luck.

I see your point about adjusting to the layout, especially when 99% of blogs just do the standard method.

Thanks for the input,
Andrew

They're kind of trippy. Maybe it was just the site's color scheme. I can see how they can be useful, though. I think it might be a little hard for me to adjust to the different comment layout.
