Online Schools Offer Paralegal and Law Degrees

Sponsored Post

If you are working full-time, traditional schools can be a daunting challenge. Many schools are now offering online degree programs. This trend even covers the legal field. Earn My Degree helps to track schools that offer online paralegal and law degrees.

Is it worth it?

At first you might be thinking that online degrees are totally worthless. I’m not going to claim that they are equal to traditional degrees in all aspects, but online degrees do have value. For example, online paralegal training might be a good option for current legal assistants. You could go to school in your free time, enhance your skill set, and get a promotion. Not bad for the internet.

Law degrees are a bit of a different story. I know some firms look at online degrees skeptically, but several online and correspondence schools are recognized by the California Bar. You’ll definitely want to plan ahead, but an online J.D. might work for your career.

The site itself

Earn My Degree does a nice job of summarizing the options at several online schools. If you’re interested in this education option, this is a good place to start.

Only one school listed actually offers a J.D., but several of them offer other degrees. There are degrees in legal studies, paralegal work, and office management.

Also, when you see a school in which you are interested, you can easily get more information. All you do is click the “request free info pack” link, fill out the form, and your information should be on its way.

My take

Online schooling hasn’t been my education of choice. But that doesn’t mean it’s not right for you. If you’re interested in a legal education, Earn My Degree has some good information for you. In fact, this site also has information on other degrees as well. You might give this one a browse.

I appreciate your good advice on this topic. I have been somewhat more critical of online law degrees because (1) so few states recognize them for purposes of becoming licensed to practice law, (2) law firms generally disfavor online degrees (as you mentioned), and (3) I worry that some students are tricked into online law degrees without knowing the limitations of these degrees.

That isn’t to say the education is bad. It is merely recognizing the reality of our legal environment and the role the ABA has in approving law schools.

You made some great points. You’re right that the key is knowing the limitations of an online degree. Your post does a great job of helping to point that out.
