Initial Impressions of ReviewMe

Sponsored Post

You may have seen articles today about the new blog review service, ReviewMe. Like many of my blogging brethren, I am taking ReviewMe up on their challenge of writing a review about the review-company. Circular, right?

Snazzy interface

Upon first entering ReviewMe’s site, you will notice a pretty spiffy interface. It’s very blue, but I like blue.

Once you register and login as a blogger, you have an account page, where you can manage your sites, your reviews, payments, etc. They also provide an RSS feed where you can track account “activity.” I’m not sure what they’ll send through that, but we’ll see.

One awesome thing I discovered was that they have a Law category in which to include your site. Definitely a tip of the hat to the blawgosphere.

Only 1 opportunity

I was really impressed with ReviewMe, when I first registered. I went to try to see what kind of reviews they were seeking, and I became a little confused. I understand that they are brand new, but I didn’t see a single opportunity, besides reviewing ReviewMe itself. Personally, I think they should have had at least a few real advertisers signed up before they launched. I guess they’re using their own launch to advertise themselves.

Interesting payment system

The final thing of note for right now is that ReviewMe pays bloggers based on (from what I gather) the popularity of the blog. Two people could write identical reviews, post them on two different blogs, and get paid vastly different amounts of money.

I can see the logic behind this, but it does seem a bit unfair. On one hand, advertisers are paying for exposure, thus it makes sense to pay more for higher traffic. But they are also paying for content, so shouldn’t the same review be equally priced all over? Maybe I’m just bitter because Legal Andrew doesn’t make it into the top rate bracket. :)

What do you think of ReviewMe? Do you have a strong feeling about sponsored posts in general? Please post a comment or drop me a line.
